PENDANTS AND SHELL JEWELRY—a perfect pairing.

Updated: Jun 18, 2023

Sadly, shell jewelry is often relegated to summer or beach wear. But not this year! Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, and a host of trendsetters say shell jewelry is definitely ‘in’ for all of 2023, and shell pendants are ‘in’ to the max!! Why is this pendant-shell combination so popular right now?

  1. Pendants always stay in style and are worn year-round. They’re incredibly versatile and can be worn alone or layered with chains or other pendants.

  2. Shell jewelry isn’t just lovely; it’s sustainable.

You can feel good about supporting environmentally conscious fashion. You can feel even better knowing that my Boca Chica Pendants are responsibly and respectfully resourced.

I only use the dead shells I find as I walk along the shoreline. (Dead shells are shells whose inhabitants left months or years ago.)

When I see a shell I know will make an elegant or even exquisite pendant, I bend down and pick it up. Then when I have a handful of shells, I walk barefooted into the ocean, rinsing them in the salty sea. I place the shells in my cotton bag, never taking more than my bag can hold, and never going to the beach more than three times a week.

My shell ritual is calming and pleasant, but it’s more than that. To feel the power of the ocean and to know its generosity as it gifts me with its shells has me feel cared for and loved. Now, I’m not one to accept a phenomenon like this. So, I did a bit of research.

Some people believe that “Shells can tap the universal love source and help to feel it which connects all beings.” Similarly, others believe shells bridge the physical and the supernatural realms.

There are many more powers attributed generally to all shells. There are also specific shells that are said to bestow specific gifts.

Clams, mussels, and oysters purify and give love and good fortune. Limpet Shells are the pinnacle of power. They provide courage, confidence, and physical strength. Oysters and blue-green limpets are the shells I use most often for Boca Chica Pendants.

Now, I can’t say that I fully believe in the power of shells, but I also can’t deny my feeling of being cared for and loved when I collect them. I guess I’ll just enjoy this feeling and accept it as a mystery I might one day be blessed to understand... like why I can put 5 pairs of socks into the washing machine but end up with only 4 pairs and one sock.

I’m wondering, have you found peace and love in nature?

Do you know where my missing socks are?

Enjoy your life, precious people.

I recently purchased my first Boca Chica Pendant and want to share my experience with other prospective buyers. All of the pendants shown on the website are beautiful, but the one I selected was even more beautiful and stunning when I opened the package in person! And, because the backside of the shell is completely different from the front side, I actually have TWO pendants for the price of one! The quality is superb, and I highly recommend this artist for her creative and beautifully crafted jewelry!
